Description
Sasa-Nishiki (Sasanishiki) is a Japanese short-grain rice variety originally developed in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. This Yutaka Sasa-Nishiki is grown in Chiang Rai Province in northern Thailand, an area surrounded by mountains with a relatively cool climate and clean water.
When cooked, Sasa-Nishiki has a soft, fluffy appearance with a lighter flavour and less stickiness than many other Japanese short-grain rice varieties. Its balanced texture also remains enjoyable after cooling.
Sasa-Nishiki is particularly well suited to sushi. The grains do not become excessively sticky when mixed with sushi vinegar, helping the seasoned rice retain a light and distinct texture. It is also a good choice for rice bowls, bento and other Japanese-style meals.
